MARION E. ELTHERINGTON

Marion Eltherington was born in Toronto and has been a member of the Greater Toronto Women’s Bowling Association for 38 years.

Marion bowls in the long established Metropolitan/Stanley Park League and is still actively involved in the administrative side of our organization. As a member of the Board of Directors of the GTWBA for Thirty-three years, she has held several positions including Assistant Secretary, Secretary, Association Tournament Director and third Vice-President. In 1985 she became the first Life Member of the Greater Toronto Women’s Bowling Association.

She was a secretary and treasurer at league level and is a member of the national 600 club. Truly an innovator, Marion chaired and served on every committee of the Greater Toronto Women’s Bowling Association Board. She was responsible for our first awards banquet in 1969, worked on the introduction of our first yearbook in 1970, chaired the first committee to set up the format for the Bowler of the Year, was involved in formatting the Hall of Fame selection procedure, and was the co-coordinator of the Canadian Tenpin Federation Autonomy Study. Marion was a committee member for the 1977 CTF National Finals, and took part in Local Officers Training Seminars. She attended numerous Ontario Provincial Annual Meetings and earned her 25 Year Pin as a participant in the Ontario Provincial Tournament. Marion attended 4 WIBC National Conventions and Bowled in 6 National Tournaments.

In 1965 she teamed with former GTWBA Treasurer Marie Knowles to win the Doubles Event in the Local Association Tournament. In 1980 she was presented with the Greater Toronto W.B.A. “Merit Award”.

In October of 1999 Marion celebrated 48 years of marriage to her husband Don. They have been blessed with four wonderful children, Rob, Lynn, John and Brad and nine grandchildren.

Marion has also found time to be a volunteer worker for the Metro homes for the aged and in 1992 was presented with the “Canada Medal for Volunteerism”.

The Hall of Fame is pleased to induct Marion E. Eltherington.
