MARIE KNOWLES

Marie Knowles was born in Toronto and has been a member of the greater Women’s bowling Association for some 40 years.

Marie bowled in the Ladies All Star Treble League serving as their secretary for 11 years. She now bowls in the long established Metropolitan/Stanley Park League. She was a Director of the Women’s Board for several years, chairing and serving on all committees before going on to become Treasurer of the Association for 26 years. During that time she also served for a term as Treasurer of the Junior Association.

Marie is a founding member of the Ontario provincial W.B.A. and has received her 35 year pin for tournament participation. Her bowling career has been steady, always maintaining a average around 157 to 165. She earned a 650 plaque, and in the 1960’s she won the doubles Event in the City Tournament partnering with her sister-in-law Marion Eltherington. Marie also won the All-Events Handicap Division of the city Tournament in 1966. In 2002 she again won the Double Event in the City Tournament, this time partnering with her sister, Fern Stokes. She was a Delegate to four W.I.B.C. National Conventions and bowled in eight W.I.B.C. National Tournaments. Marie was the Co-Chairman of the CTF team Trials.

Marie received the Certificate of Appreciation for her efforts at league and board levels.

In 1989-90 she became a Member Emerita of the Greater Toronto Women’s Bowling Association and in 2001 she received the Peter Hasting Award of Merit in the Metropolitan/Stanley Park Mixed League for her years in the league and leadership as a Team Captain.

Marie is the proud Mother of four daughters, Cheryl, Diana, Debbie and Valerie and she has eleven wonderful grandchildren.

She continues to be a vital part of both the greater Women’s bowling Association and the Greater Toronto Junior Bowling Association.

The Hall of Fame is pleased to induct Marie Knowles.
