ALVIN CLARKE

Alvin Clarke was born in Barbados and came to Canada in 1969 residing in the Toronto area for the past 37 years.

A member of the Greater Toronto Tenpin Bowling Association for thirty-one years, in 1980 Alvin joined the Board of Directors. During his 24 years on the Board, he served as Director, Third Vice-President, Second Vice-President, First Vice-President and became President in 1990, serving for four years. He has served on all the committees, co-chaired the Mixed Doubles Tournament, and was co-director of the first joint association tournament (men and women). It was during his term as President that Alvin initiated the committee to establish the Greater Toronto Tenpin Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame. As President of the Association for four years, he was granted Life Membership in 1994. After taking a year off, Alvin rejoined our Board of Directors in 2005 under the Canadian Tenpin Federation.

In 1986 he became a Certified Lane Inspector and attended the Local Association Officers Training Conference (LAOTC) Regional Program in 1991. Alvin is also very active at the league level, serving as President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Alvin served 12 years as a Director on the Ontario Provincial Tenpin Bowling Association (OPTBA) and 2 years as a Director on the new Ontario Tenpin Bowling Association. Prior to becoming a member of the Provincial Association, he was a delegate to the Provincial meetings and jamborees.

For 19 years, Alvin has bowled in the Local Association Tournament. In 1989 Alvin won the Association Tournament Handicap Doubles and All Events and became a member of the All Star Team which represented the Association in the Brick Brewery Challenge Trophy against Kitchener/Waterloo Bowling Association. Alvin has one 300 game and three 700 series to his credit and in 2004-2005 he placed second in the Western/Central New York men’s handicap singles tournament.

For Meritorious Service, the Hall of Fame is pleased to induct Alvin Clarke.
