ALICE McMURDO
(1902 – 1976)

Alice was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1902 and spent her early years in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she began her bowling career. Since Women’s leagues did not exist at that time, Alice bowled in Men’s leagues. She moved to Toronto in 1939 and found the situation existed, so in 1946 she instrumental in forming the Greater Toronto Women’s Bowling Association and served nine years as the first President. In all, Alice served the Toronto Board for forty years in one capacity or another.

In 1963, Alice helped form the Ontario Women’s Provincial Bowling Association and served as President for ten years.

In 1964, Alice was one of a group that founded the Canadian Tenpin Federation and served as their first Secretary/Treasurer.

Alice was a delegate to 29 National WIBC conventions and had bowling friends all over the country.

In 1977, the Greater Toronto Women’s bowling Association established the “Alice McMurdo Memorial” Bowler of the Year Award.
