STEPHEN GILLIAM

Stephen Gilliam was born in Oakville on July 29th, 1954. For several years he bowled five pin in the YBC program at Hopedale Bowl in Oakville, stopping when he was sixteen.

In the late seventies Stephen started bowling ten pin in the Hamilton & District Association and from 1984 to 1992 he bowled a 299, over twenty-five 700 series and with the team, The Left Bank, set a 5 Man Team Single Game record of 1198 which still stands today.

Stephen joined the Greater Toronto Tenpin Bowling Association in 1979-80 and has been a member for twenty-four years. He has bowled three 300 Games, one of them at the ABC National Championship Tournament in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he became the third Canadian to shoot 300 in the history of the ABC. He has bowled an 805 Series, two 299 Games, one 298 Game, five 11-in-a-Row and over one hundred 700 series. Over the years he has maintained a Toronto composite average of over 197 with a single season high average of 223.

In 1981 during league play he and his teammates set a 3 Man Team Single Game record of 763 which held for 6 years. Years later his performance in our Annual Association Tournament gave him three Scratch Team Titles and one Scratch Singles Title.

He has bowled in 10 Ontario Provincial Tournaments, winning one Scratch Team Title, three Scratch Doubles Titles and one Scratch Singles Title.

During his career he competed and won several tournaments including the BPAO Ontario Open, Southern Ontario Bowlers Tour (Scratch Open) and the Ontario Match Play Championship. From 1996 to 2005 in the Greater Miami International Bowling Tournament he won four Singles Titles, three Doubles Titles, four All Events Titles and one Masters Final. Competing in the Tournament of the Americas in 2004 he won Bronze Medals in both the Senior Team Event and the Senior Country All Events. At the CTF Canadian Mixed Championships he came first in the Senior All Events, setting a 9 game tournament record in 2004 and came fourth in 2005.

Stephen has been our Bowler of the Year once and a member of the Greater Toronto Tenpin Bowling Association “All Star Team” five times.

For Distinguished Performance, the Hall of Fame is pleased to induct Stephen P. Gilliam.
