REA RENNOX

Rea Rennox, a Winnipeg native, was a member of the Greater Toronto Women’s Bowling Association for twenty years.

Rea competed in fifteen City Tournaments. In 1967-68 she rolled an incredible 5 game score of 1101 in the Association Scratch Tournament and that record held until the 1995-96 season. Lane conditions have changed over the years and it was indeed more difficult in the sixties to roll this kind of a score. As well, Rea was almost six months pregnant with her son Warren when she attained this five game total. As everyone is aware Warren Rennox is also a World Class bowler who has obviously inherited his mother’s bowling talent.

In 1977 Rea won the CTF qualifier to go to the F.I.Q. and she had also qualified to go to the World Cup. She won the local qualifier at Cedarbrae, and the Canadian qualifier at Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Financially she could not afford to take part in both events, so she chose to go to the World Cup in Tolworth, England and won the Women’s Singles defeating the American entrant with a score of 570 to 542. Her 47 game tournament average was 188.7

Rea was the Toronto 600 Club Tournament winner in 1970-71. She won the All-Events Scratch Division in the City Tournament in 1973-74 and in 1974-75 was the “A” Division Scratch Tournament winner. In 1977-78 Rea was the first recipient of the Alice McMurdo Bowler of the Year Award for her performance on the lanes. Along the way she earned two High Average Awards and was a season High Triple winner.

Rea was also active at league level serving as a League Vice-President, League Secretary and House Rep.
