RAY VERVYNCK

Ray Vervynck was born in Oshawa in 1962. He is a member of the Oshawa & District Tenpin Bowling Association and has served in various positions as part of that board, currently serving as President.

In 1988 Ray joined the Greater Toronto Tenpin Bowling Association. Over the years Ray has accumulated some incredible statistics. He has bowled twenty-two 300 games, six 299 games, four 298 games, six 11-in-a-Row games, and four 800 series with a high of 838. He has converted the 7-10 split and has a Toronto composite average of 218.

Ray has bowled in 14 Ontario Provincial Tournaments, winning six Scratch titles. In the GTTBA, he won two Local Association Scratch titles, and three Mixed Doubles Scratch titles. In October 2005 he won the 700 Club Tournament, setting a record of 1506 for an Individual 6 Game Series and tying the Canadian record at the time. During league play in the 2003-2004 season Ray and his teammates set the 5 Man Team 3 Game Series record of 1317 and also the 5 Man Team 1 Game record of 1309 which still stands today.

During his career, Ray was a member of Team Canada for eight years, a National Team member six times and was Champion in 1990. Competing all over the world, Ray placed 2nd at the Malaysian International Open in 1990 and 2nd in Doubles with his partner Jack Brace at the Commonwealth Invitational Tournament in Victoria in 1994. He bowled in the Pam Am Games in Cuba, the World Tenpin Team Cup in Calgary and Denmark, the American Zone Championships in Costa Rica and Guatemala City where he and his partner Joe Ciach came 2nd in Doubles. In 2006 at the Tournament of the Americas he came 1st in Doubles, 2nd in Individual All Events and 3rd in National All Events. While competing in the World Championships in Busan, South Korea he was part of a team that set a Canadian record of 6293 for the Team Event for six games.

Ray has been our Bowler of the Year twice and been a member of the GTTBA All Star Team four times.

For Distinguished Performance, the Hall of Fame is pleased to induct Ray Vervynck.
