MARY EBATA

Mary was born in British Columbia in April 1924. A widow since 1970, Mary enjoys her family of one daughter and two grandchildren.

While we are here to honor Mary for her bowling skill, we must also thank her for over fifty years as a member. In the early years she served the Women’s Association Board of Directors as Treasurer and Sergeant at Arms. A fall three years ago, resulted in an injury that forced her to end her bowling.

For a number of years she served as Secretary for the Friday Night Nisei League of Japanese Bowlers, one of the oldest leagues still operating in our Association today. In addition she ran the Annual Nisei Tournament for many years.

In the Sixties and Seventies, Mary excelled on the lanes and had a 180 plus average for more than ten years. A constant thirst for competition resulted in Mary bowling in a Men’s Scratch League and traveling to Tournaments in the USA.

In the Newspaper, Mary was described as a pretty and winsome lass from across the border, when she won the Upstate New York Women’s Classic Title, with a four game total of 832 closing with a 255 game. Considered to be one of the better feminine keglers from Toronto, Mary has bowled an eleven in a row game, a high 287 game and a high three game series of 666, all exceptional scores for the time.

Mary was a member of the O’Connor West Ladies Team, the only team in Canada to qualify for the prestigious “900 Club” of the United States, when the team average was 906.

Mary has been an avid Tournament Bowler in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and USA, resulting in numerous awards.

The Hall of Fame is pleased to induct Mary for Distinguished Performance on the Lanes.
