FRANCES SANDERSON

Fran was born in Toronto and has lived in this vicinity ever since. She is presently Vice President of Advertising, Promotion and Publicity for Bowlerama Limited.

Fran served on the Board of Directors of the Women’s Association for a number of years, including two terms as 1st Vice President.

Fran has been a member of the Greater Toronto Women’s Association for 30 years and has competed in 25 Local Association Tournaments. In addition she has competed in 15 Provincial Tournaments collecting 3 Championships. She has also participated in 12 WIBC National Tournaments.

Fran has a 10 year composite average of 180 and has bowled 3 – 279 games. She has won the “A” Division of the local Queens Tournament 3 times.

Competing in the Tournament of Americas in 1980, Fran won Singles, Doubles and All-Events and a third in Mixed Doubles, setting 5 tournament records and compiling an average of 197.

As a member of Team Canada, competing in the F.I.Q. Tournament in Bogota (1985) she won a bronze medal in the trios. In Wichita (1989) she placed 4th in the singles and was captain of the Canadian Team.

Fran has been selected as the Women’s Bowler of the Year on 8 occasions.

Besides bowling, Fran is deeply involved in community affairs and serves on the Board of Directors of the Nishnawbe Homes Inc., (housing for urban aboriginals) and the Board of Directors of Ojibewe Cultural Foundation, (fund raising for preservation of Manitoulin Island culture and heritage).

Fran has received the “Chief Baker’s Award” from Variety Club of Ontario for outstanding contributions in fund raising.

She has also been the recipient of the Scarborough Recreation Honour Roll Hall of Fame.
