Walter Valentan

Walter was born in Graz, Austria in June 1929 and immigrated to Canada in 1951. In Canada he eventually settled in Galt, Ontario after short stays in Toronto and Sudbury.

He has a diploma in Tool and Die Making and during school was interested in gymnastics, track and field and soccer. Later he became an ardent rock climber and downhill skier.

Employed by Sunar Industry Ltd, in Waterloo for nineteen years, he progressed to become Plant Engineer. During that time, Walter took up Five Pin Bowling and quickly determined his bowling skill was more suited to that of an organizer. Adults and Youth gained from his contributions and we can all be thankful he chose to do so.

In 1972 he resigned his employment position to pursue a full time career in bowling. In 1973 Walter accepted an offer to become Executive Director of the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of Ontario, a position he still holds, some thirty years later.

Walters Tournament Promotion, Youth Involvement and Business dealings have left its mark on many. Walters’ greatest achievement, however, has been the unprecedented level of mutual trust, respect and co-operation he has fostered between the “Bowlers” and “Proprietors’ Association”. As a result all have reaped the benefits.

A strong promoter of Tenpin Bowling, Walter is front and centre at the TSN Pins Games on a regular basis and over the many years has supported our Association and this Annual Awards Dinner.

In 1997, Walter tied the knot with a lovely blonde lady named Trudi, who is at his side and keeps him young and energetic.

A True Builder of Our Sport, The Hall of Fame is pleased to induct Walter Valentan.
